Lecture Series: The Struggle for the Soul of Iran

Laura Secor, Author and Freelance Journalist for the New York Times Magazine, the New Republic, and other publications, will present a lecture based on her most recent book, Children of Paradise. For more than a decade Laura has studied and written about Iranian culture and politics. Iran is often seen as a “sinister presence” by the West, but inside the country a reform movement exists that has drawn deeply on traditions of both East and West.

Religious thinkers, political operatives, poets, journalists, and activists have acted upon their beliefs with urgency and passion, frequently risking their lives as they struggle to be understood outside their country.

The program will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 6:30 pm in the Sainer Auditorium on the campus of New College of Florida, 5313 Bay Shore Road. The lecture is free to the general public, but reservations are suggested. Please RSVP to 941-487-4603 or info@sarasotawac.org. A reception with the speaker will follow for SWAC members.
